The world is constantly changing, the pace of living is quickening and daily life provides many pressures at varying levels for young people. The digital age may be well and truly upon us, however, sometimes it’s a human ear which is simply the best tool. Acorn Christian Healing Foundation is working continuously to ensure that we are providing practical support and guidance in how to listen to young people. We currently have the following tool kit:
Log In Listen In is a modern fast moving DVD training for young people. Targeted at secondary school students, this 2 hour course enables young people to really experience and appreciate the importance of listening well. Good listening is particularly important when a young person wants to talk about anything significant in their lives.
Good Listening Attitudes
Log In Listen In is a 2 hour DVD course, which teaches students the vital importance of good listening attitudes and skills in all of their relationships, inside and outside of the school environment. It is particularly relevant to PSHE and RE lessons and will have a positive impact wherever it is used. The course will benefit individual students by giving them essential skills for life and making them more aware of the concerns and needs of their friends, colleagues and teachers.
Supporting Anti-Bullying Campaigns
Log In Listen In will benefit any school by making an important, positive, contribution to its pastoral ethos and could form a part of any anti-bullying campaign.
Encouraging Young People’s Spirituality
Log In Listen In contains a stand-alone session addressing the question as to whether and how we can hear God speak to us today.
Teacher Guidance
Each Log In Listen In course session is self-explanatory and requires very little preparation on the part of the teacher or facilitator in charge. Guidance for teachers is provided in clear and comprehensive notes and requires very little teacher preparation.
Young People & Live School Situations
The sessions are introduced by two young people and filming contains live school situations. Students from both state and private schools took part in the making of Log In Listen In, representing a range of faith and no faith backgrounds.
"Our years of working with secondary schools on peer mentoring programmes has simply confirmed how much young people need to be listened to in this noisy and complex world. If not, they feel isolated and unimportant and this often is the beginning of destructive behaviour. Log In Listen In is a real eye and ear opener for young people and we believe it will prove to be a valuable tool for teaching staff."
"At a time when the curriculum aims to enable young people to become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens the importance of developing good listening skills cannot be underestimated. I believe this DVD will be an invaluable tool for schools seeking to introduce the basic skills of Active Listening."
